Sour Grass (1987)

Limited edition silkscreen, 70 x 50 cm

Limited edition silkscreen 'Sour Grass' (1987), 70 x 50 cm, depicting the vibrant yellow flowers of Sour Grass emerging from burnt soil after a forest fire. Inspired by Aboriginal experiences in Australia, where nature flourishes again shortly after destruction, symbolizing resilience and renewal.

The brightness of the yellow flowers against the burnt soil are those of Sour Grass, the first to
appear after a forest fire. Aborigines were said to have suck the stem for its sour milk.
“Particularly experiences of the aborigines in Australia impressed me. They burnt everything down and only a few days later everything was flourishing again.”
