Flying with Joshoua I (1981)

(Flying with Joshoua II)
The original sculpture was made of petrified whalebone. During the artist’s visit to the USA in the early ’80s, Franco visited Alaska and was invited to stay with Eskimos. He saw the art they made and had the opportunity to create four sculptures. As of today, these original sculptures are lost, but this one and an untitled one exist in bronze.
As an expression of his Arte Vita, he made a photographic series of the Flying Together sculpture laying on the body of Joshoua, and he created the original diptych Flying with Joshoua (oil, 1982, 2 x 85 x 130 cm).
